Let’s Get Cellphilming: Reflections on Cellphilming with Children

This short documentary explores the power of cellphilming to amplify underrepresented voices—especially those of children. Shot entirely on an iPhone, the film combines footage of children making their own cellphilms with reflections from researchers and community members. It reveals how mobile filmmaking fosters digital literacy, equity, and inclusion, while encouraging authentic storytelling and social change. The documentary builds on over a decade of work at McGill’s Participatory Cultures Lab, home of the International Cellphilm Festival, where cellphilming is used as a participatory research method to address pressing social justice issues.
